Scrum Framework – Five Values and Three Pillars

Three Pillars

Empirical Process Control, or Empiricism, has three core concepts, these are the three pillars of Scrum:

  1. Transparency (using common language and shared standards).
  2. Inspection (of Scrum artifacts and progress toward Sprint Goal).
  3. Adaption (with improvements and adjustments to minimise deviations).

Scrum Values

To support these three pillars, Scrum emphasises the following values to be embodied by each Scrum Team:

  1. Commitment (to achieving goals of the Scrum Team).
  2. Courage (to do what is right and work on tough problems).
  3. Focus (on the Sprint’s work and the goals of the Scrum Team).
  4. Openness (about challenges of the work).
  5. Respect (each other as capable and independent members of the Scrum Team).
